Abstract: Leiton Chinn, former president of ACMI (1999-2008), has been mobilizing the church for ISM since 1977 and completed a ten-year tenure as Lausanne Catalyst for ISM in 2017. In this article he gives some background to the ISM movement and a rationale for churches and para-church organizations getting involved and supporting ISM today.

Bieler, Stacey. Patriots or Traitors: A History of American Educated Chinese Students.

Abstract: Chinese students form the largest group of internationals coming to universities in the West. They have at various times been seen both as patriots and as traitors to their country. Bieler, who has worked with international students at Michigan State University, presents the stories of 15 students who came to the US between 1850 and 1930. "It's little known among most Chinese and American educators that many of these students returned as leaders for China, both politically and culturally, and that many became Christians while in the USA...It is this Christianity that puts some at risk, but, more importantly, shapes most of them for lives of service and altruism in a society convulsed by warlords and revolutions, on the one hand, and, on the other, constrained by Confucian ideals of harmony and conformity.
